In 2005, Dr. Eric Galvez, DPT, was diagnosed with a golf ball-sized meningioma brain tumor at the age of 30.  He had surgery and physical rehabilitation where he used to work, so many of his colleagues were key members of his rehabilitation team.  His unique perspective as a young rehab professional turned brain tumor ”thriver” with severe physical impairments inspired him to publish his first book, “Reversal: When A Therapist Becomes A Patient.”

Shortly after publishing the book, his interactions with fellow oncology patients inspired him to start mAss Kickers Foundation (mKF) which promoted a proactive lifestyle after an intimidating oncology diagnosis. mKF was taking survivors worldwide (Philippines, Japan, Belgium, South Africa, United States, and Canada) to present at hospitals, healthcare professional schools, patient groups, and cancer organizations.

Sadly, COVID-19 travel restrictions forced the organization to dissolve. From the ashes of mKF, the concept of the Disability Guerrillas was formed combining Eric’s passion for physical rehabilitation/exercise and philanthropy. Stay tuned to see what happens next!
