The mission of Metroparks Toledo is to conserve the region’s natural resources by creating, developing, improving, protecting, and promoting clean, safe, and natural parks and open spaces for the benefit, enjoyment, education, and general welfare of the public. On behalf of the Lucas County residents, Metroparks is proud to steward over 13,000 acres of some of the region’s most precious and best natural areas. The system includes 19 Metroparks, one within 5 miles of every Lucas County resident, and over 120 miles of trails. Metroparks Toledo received the 2020 National Gold Medal Award for excellence in parks and recreation management, the most prestigious honor in the parks and recreation industry.  Metroparks are free and open every day of the year from 7:00 AM to Sunset.

Metroparks Toledo is committed to providing opportunities for all people to utilize our parks, facilities, and programs. In addition to many accessible trails accessible docks, a barrier-free playground, and the Doneghy Inclusive Garden, Metroparks offers year-round inclusive programs for all ages and abilities. Staff can adapt many programs to be accessible to any participants. Metroparks offers many public programs throughout the year found on the upcoming programs and events page, Metroparks Facebook page, and the program and events calendar. Metroparks also offers requested programs for groups and schools. Some highlights of adaptive programming offered include archery, tree climbing, kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, fishing, ice skating, forest therapy, hiking, trolley park tours, camps, and more! The Recreation Equipment Catalog provides participants with detailed information about the program equipment. Metroparks also offers free reservations of adaptive trikes and the all-terrain power wheelchair, Action Track Chair, at Wildwood Preserve Metropark. This chair easily rolls over rocks, roots, sand, mud, and snow, allowing users to explore almost any trail. The chair is available for free reservations thanks to a Reeve Foundation Grant. Metroparks and the Ability Center of Greater Toledo are partnering to bring you beginner-friendly and inclusive programs that are for everyone! Shake off the winter blues with a fun evening of indoor archery! Try out archery for the first time, or the first time in a long time, with the instruction and guidance of Metroparks staff. All equipment provided, minors must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program. Inclusive Archery (Adults and 8+)

Save the date for Metroparks Toledo’s first annual Outdoor Discovery Day! This free event takes place on Sunday, May 18th, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Side Cut Metropark. All activities are accessible and include tree climbing, archery, trolley rides, forest therapy, canoeing, kayaking, biking, kids zone, community partner activities, and more! This is an inclusive event, and staff are trained and ready to make accommodations. A low sensory zone will be available at the Lamb Center. Adaptive equipment will be readily available. Universal changing stations will be available. No registration is required. Food trucks and music will be on-site, so plan to make it a day in the outdoors.
